Pivot to air annual Peabody Awards through 2016

Participant Media-owned net Pivot will be the exclusive broadcaster of the annual Peabody Awards, which honor achievements in electronic media, beginning this spring and continuing through 2016.

The George Foster Peabody Awards, presented by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, recognizes achievements by broadcasters, cable networks and webcasters. The partnership marks the first time in over 10 years that the awards ceremony has had a broadcast home.

This year’s Peabody honorees will be announced April 2, and although a premiere date for the televised awards is as-yet-unannounced, the special will combine highlights from the ceremony with exclusive interviews with select award recipients.

In addition, the millennial-focused net will produce and televise original primetime specials spotlighting the annual winners selected by the Peabody adjudication board. Pivot’s digital platform will also provide background on the history of the awards.

“For 73 years, we have honored ‘storytelling that matters,’ and Pivot’s emphasis on entertainment that inspires action and change makes them the perfect home,” said Jeffrey P. Jones, director of the Peabody Awards, in a statement. “Together we hope to bring greater attention not only to those in electronic media who are producing quality work, but also to the importance of the stories they are telling.”
