MIPTV ’14: FremantleMedia, De Rijk strike development deal

The global prodco and the creator of Deal or No Deal will form a strategic partnership to develop entertainment and game formats.

Global prodco FremantleMedia and format creator Dick de Rijk have signed an exclusive multi-year co-development deal with an aim towards creating globally adaptable game and entertainment formats.

De Rijk, based in the Netherlands, has created various formats that have travelled around the world, through partnerships with John de Mol, Endemol and Red Arrow International. His Deal or No Deal has aired in more than 150 countries, and other international format successes include You Deserve It, Set For Life and Show Me The Money.

“Dick is an ideas man, with a fantastic understanding of the global TV market and you can see from the formats that he’s developed, that he thinks creatively and strategically,” said Rob Clark, director of global entertainmenrt for FremantleMedia, in a statement. “I hope that alongside our global network of production companies, we can together build the next global entertainment TV franchise.”

“This new alliance with FremantleMedia feels like a big challenge,” added de Rijk. “A distributing partner of this size, both creatively and geographically, offers every opportunity to create some new fireworks in the television landscape.”
