VOD service Netflix has hired Vuguru CEO Larry Tanz (pictured) to be its VP of acquisitions for Europe, joining later this year.

Tanz has headed up Vuguru, the digital studio launched and founded by former Walt Disney CEO Michael Eisner, for the past five years.

In a statement given to media outlets, Eisner said: “Larry has done an incredible job turning Vuguru into a leading independent studio with titles in distribution worldwide. We know Netflix will benefit greatly from Larry’s leadership and expert knowledge of the space and wish him our very best.”

The news comes after Netflix launched in several major European countries earlier this year, including France, Germany, and Luxembourg. News of Tanz’s hiring was first reported by U.S. trade Variety.
