Discovery’s Silar moves to NBC Universo

Former VP of content for Discovery U.S. Hispanic Networks Bilai Joa Silar has joined the NBCUniversal-owned cable net as SVP of programming and production.

U.S. cable net NBC Universo has hired former Discovery exec Bilai Joa Silar as senior vice president of programming and production.

Effective April 27, she will head up the Hispanic-targeted sports and entertainment channel’s programming strategy, which includes acquisitions, development and production. She will also work with NBCUniversal’s Hispanic Enterprise and Content, and parent company NBCUniversal on strategic programming opportunities.

Silar most recently worked as the vice president of content for Discovery U.S. Hispanic Networks and as VP, channel director responsible for Discovery en Español, Discovery Familia and Discovery’s factual portfolio in Latin America. In those roles, she devised the brand direction and planned and oversaw programming, scheduling, marketing, communications and promotional strategies.

She began working with Discovery in 1995 and also launched the Latin American channel aimed at preschoolers, Discovery Kids.

Silar will report to NBC Universo president Rubén Mendiola.
