Discovery Family Channel fetches Betty White for ‘Pawgust’

U.S. cable net Discovery Family Channel is turning August into ‘Pawgust.’

The network will air a raft of animal themed series, specials and movies during the summer month, with actor and animal advocate Betty White acting as host.

While the themed programming kicks off on August 1 with a broadcast of the animated classic 101 Dalmations, ‘Pawgust’ will feature the world premiere of Discovery Family’s first original series, From Wags to Riches with Bill Berloni. The series, which is to bow August 6 at 9 p.m. EST/PST, takes an in-depth look at the private life of award-winning animal trainer Bill Berloni as he transforms shelter pups into trained on-stage stars.

Remaining series scheduled for broadcast throughout August include Funniest Pets and People, which will air weeknights at 5 p.m. EST/PST beginning August 3 as part of a daily ‘yappy hour’; the U.S. debut of Secrets of the Dog Park(w/t), airing August 6 at 10 p.m. EST/PST alongside encore presentations of My Dog’s Crazy Animal Friends; and the August 7 launch of Pets Make You Laugh Out Loud (w/t) at 8 p.m. EST/PST and Planet’s Funniest Animals at 9 p.m. EST/PST.

Additionally, the network will run Pawsome Paws miniature webisodes across its online platform featuring animals from its televised programs.
