U.S. net Destination America has lined up a September premiere for the hour-long documentary, 9/11: The Lost Hero.

The Testimony Films-produced doc reveals a firsthand account from Jason Thomas (pictured), a former Marine Corps sergeant, on the events surrounding his rescue of two New York City police officers – Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin – trapped beneath the rubble of the World Trade Center.

Interviews with Jimeno and Thomas’ family members are interwoven with unseen footage of the September 11 terrorist attack while Thomas discusses his emotional struggles in the months following the traumatizing event.

The film debuted at last year’s New York TV and Film Festival, picking up a Gold World Medal. It would later take home a Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Film and TV Festival.

Steve Humphries, Nick Maddocks and David Long serve as producers for Testimony Films, while Cathy Garland serves as executive producer for Destination America. The film is distributed by Silverlining Rights.

9/11: The Lost Hero is to bow on September 8 at 10 p.m. EST/PST on Destination America.
