Director Sacha Jenkins’ documentary on the evolution hip-hop fashion, Fresh Dressed, will premiere on CNN on September 3.
Co-produced by CNN Films and Mass Appeal – with Nasir Jones (aka rapper Nas), Peter Bittenbender and Marcus Clarke serving as producers for the latter media company – the doc had its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
Fresh Dressed charts the influence and ongoing history of hip-hop fashion trends and brands over the past four decades, from Kangol hats and fat-laced sneakers to artist-run lines such as Sean Combs’ Sean John and Jay-Z’s Rocawear lines. The film features interviews with Kanye West, Marc Eckō, Damon Dash, Russell Simmons, Pharrell Williams, André Leon Talley, Riccardo Tisci and others.
Samuel Goldwyn Films and StyleHaul jointly acquired the North American theatrical rights following its premiere and Dogwoof picked up the international theatrical rights.
Fresh Dressed will premiere on CNN on September 3 at 9 p.m. EST/PST and will also be available on Apple TV and CNNgo.
