HGTV readies Malaysia roll-out

Scripps Networks Interactive is to launch its HGTV brand into Malaysia at the end of August on pay-TV platform Astro, making it the country’s first dedicated home and lifestyle channel.

Debuting on August 31, the channel will offer Astro viewers such titles as Property BrothersCousins Undercover (pictured), Fixer Upper, the Ellen DeGeneres-hosted Ellen’s Design Challenge and William Shatner’s The Shatner Project.

The channel will also see the commissioning of localized original content that includes Extreme Homes Asia, providing an inside look at the region’s most notable homes; and Asia Traditions, a short-form program showcasing Asian architecture and unique home design.

HGTV has launched in the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia since its Asia-wide roll-out in December 2014. Other Scripps-owned nets already being broadcast in Asia include the Asian Food Channel, Food Network and Travel Channel.

“After only launching regionally in Asia at the end of 2014, HGTV has quickly become the number one lifestyle channel in Singapore,” said Derek Chang, MD of Scripps Networks Asia-Pacific, in a statement. “This is a great achievement for the team, and I am confident the channel will receive the same outstanding response in Malaysia.”
