French pubcaster France 2 has commissioned BBC Worldwide Productions France to produce a competition series in search of the country’s best amateur painter.

The Big Painting Challenge, known locally as A Vos Pinceaux, will be presented by French singer, actress and television presenter Marianne James (pictured) and will feature artists as they face a series of technical art challenges, from drawing and still life to landscape and portrait painting.

An expert panel of judges that includes Fabrice Bousteau, a journalist and editorial director of Beaux Arts magazine; and Bruno Vannacci, a professor and artist, will critique each painting with the winning illustrator having their work exhibited in a prestigious location in France.

The series is set to begin filming this summer.

The sale marks the second for the format, following BBC Worldwide Productions Nordics’ recent commission for Swedish pubcaster SVT.
