UK broadcaster ITV is readying the July premiere of The Investigator: A British Crime Story, a new true-crime series from Shiver, the factual arm of ITV Studios, and Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment.

Hosted by investigative journalist and former police officer Mark Williams-Thomas (pictured), the four-part series will combine drama and documentary to re-examine the murder of Carol Packman, a 30-year-old murder investigation that had previously been closed.

As a former police detective, the Royal Television Society Award-winning Williams-Thomas was part of the team that uncovered late DJ and TV personality Jimmy Savile as one of the UK’s most notorious pedophiles.

The Investigator: A British Crime Story is directed by Adam Wimpenny and Hugh Ballantyne with Shiver’s Alexander Gardiner and Syco’s Luke Dolan serving as executive producers. Lesley Gardiner is listed as series producer.

Syco Entertainment’s television department, Syco TV, is home to a number of popular unscripted formats, including The X Factor, The Xtra Factor, America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent.
