Irish free-to-air channel RTÉ2 has handed a series order to fact-ent format Then Comes Marriage? from Dublin-headquartered prodco Independent Pictures.

The 6 x 60-minute series features three couples on the verge of tying the knot as they decamp for a luxury three-day vacation. During their stay, each couple will confront one another with questions about finances, sex, intimacy, conflict management, family and communication.

The format first premiered last year as a pilot under RTÉ2 Global’s Format Farm, a creative incubator initiative that supports the production and broadcast of original TV formats for Irish and international broadcasters.

Warner Bros. International Television Productions will handle all distribution for the series, which was commissioned by RTÉ2 controller Bill Malone, with Grainne McAleer as commission editor.

Elsewhere, RTÉ has opened a call to independent producers for the next round of Format Farm submissions, with a deadline of September 9.

Each submission will require prodcos to undergo the “e-commissioning” process. All ideas will be reviewed by RTÉ’s relevant genre head and head of formats, who will make recommendations to the channel controllers.
