UK pubcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a four-part series set to feature Oscar-nominated actor Julie Walters (pictured).

The tentatively titled Britain’s Coastal Railways with Julie Walters, from London-based producer Alaska TV, will follow the Billy Elliot star as she travels the British coastline by train.

The series will follow Walters across Scottish beaches and Cornish fishing villages to unearth historical secrets and discover how these coastal railways helped shape the UK, while meeting locals along the route.

Rich Evans and Paul Sommers serve as exec producers on the series, which was commissioned by C4 head of features Gill Wilson. Nicky Waltham is series producer.
