Participant Media launches YouTube channel

Participant Media has launched TakePartTV, a YouTube channel offering a mix of content including daily news, non-fiction series, short-form comedy and animation.

Aiming to feature eye-opening and optimistic content around big issues that face the planet, its web content includes series Capitalism, which sees Henry Rollins on the campaign trail, and Story of Pines, a short animated film set to the songs of Alison Sudol, aka A Fine Frenzy.

American Savage is a series featuring one-on-one debates with Dan Savage, and Mission sees NBA star Kobe Bryant takes to the streets of LA to shed light on homelessness.

TakePartTV’s flagship show, BFD: Brain Food Daily, offers an irreverent look at under-reported stories, with episodes on making money from legalizing sex, drugs and gambling; and 10 foods the government should ban.

“Millennials are the first generation of digital natives,” said Evan Shapiro, president of Participant Television. “In a very real way, they will dictate the future – so it’s important to create a channel that speaks their language. Our goal is to bridge the gap between heartfelt idealism and slap-stick humor by bringing provocative programming that will engage dialogue and, better yet, give viewers a way to take action on the issues that they care most about.”
