Arjan Hoekstra (pictured) will take the reins at Discovery Networks International’s Asia-Pacific operations in September.
As president and managing director for Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP), he will develop strategies to drive revenue across the company’s ad and affiliate sales, grow the cable giant’s brands and forge content partnerships within the region.
Hoekstra was previously the managing director for pan-European sports network Eurosport and Eurosportnews Distribution’s Asia-Pacific business. He had been with the company since 1994, working in management positions in its London, Paris and Stockholm offices.
“We are excited to have Arjan join our executive team,” said DNI president and CEO Mark Hollinger in a statement. “His strong management skills, his affiliate and sales experience and his deep relationships in the region will serve us very well as we look to expand our already successful business there further.
“Throughout his career at Eurosport, he was always looking for ways to innovate and develop new service offerings to his clients,” he added. “I look forward to his bringing this kind of ingenuity to Discovery’s portfolio in the marketplace.”
Hoekstra will be based out of DNI’s Singapore office and report to Hollinger. Via a release, the company said Hoekstra’s move will “continue to strengthen the relationship between Discovery and Eurosport as the two companies develop wider synergies in the Asia-Pacific region.”
DNI has also expanded Rahul Johri’s position from general manager for South Asia to senior vice president and general manager, South Asia and head of revenue for pan-regional ad sales and Southeast Asia. In the new role, he will manage ad sales and solutions deals for pan-regional business and focus on distribution and local ad sales for Southeast Asia.
