Global producer-distributor Endemol Shine Group has hired Wim Ponnet (pictured) as group director of strategy and commercial development.

The newly created role will see Ponnet – formerly the senior director of strategy and operations at Yahoo EMEA – focusing on the company’s strategic planning and business development across the region, while executing the company’s global strategy. His remit will also include pursuing commercial partnerships,  opportunities for mergers and acquisitions, and seeking growth into new markets.

Reporting directly to CEO Sophie Turner Laing, Ponnet will have oversight of Endemol’s commercial, mergers and acquisitions, Endemol Beyond and research teams. He is slated to join the organization this fall and will split his time between Endemol Shine Group’s London and Amsterdam offices.

The exec previously held a raft of senior titles at Coca Cola in Switzerland, where he was responsible for various national and international accounts, as well as planning across host cities and venues for UEFA Euro 2008.

“Wim’s wealth of experience and expertise makes him ideally suited to shape and drive our long-term strategic goals,” said CEO Turner Laing in a statement. “His role will be essential to keeping us at the forefront of innovation in content creation, production and distribution as we continue to grow our business and equip ourselves for the future.”
