Scripps Networks Interactive-owned channel Food Network has set a May air date for the pint-sized barbecue cookout series Kids BBQ Championship.

Produced by Lucky 8 TV, the six-part series will feature eight grill masters under the age of 13 as they compete through a series of challenges – from Hawaiian luau and backyard BBQ to state fair and cowboy campfire – that will test their grill skills and creativity for the opportunity to take home a US$20,000 grand prize and a feature in Food Network Magazine.

The series will be hosted by entrepreneur and lifestyle expert Camila Alves and former NFL player and private chef Eddie Jackson, and will feature a revolving guest judging roster including Tim Love, Danielle Bennett, Kardea Brown, Adrian Davila, Graham Elliot and Kent Rollins.

Cookery competitors range in age from 10 years old to 13.

“The competitors may be under the age of 13, but their BBQ skills are over the top,” said Didi O’Hearn, senior VP of programming at Food Network, in a statement. “Camila and Eddie are the perfect duo to lead the culinary action in this fun, fiery and family-friendly addition to the primetime lineup.”

Kids BBQ Championship  premieres on May 23 at 8 p.m. EST/PST across Food Network.
