UK-headquartered Argonon Group has acquired London-based prodco Like A Shot Entertainment and has appointed a U.S-based exec as part of its efforts to expand outside the UK.

Like A Shot was co-founded in 2011 by Henry Scott (pictured, left) and Steve Gillham (right), with creative director Bruce Burgess (center). The company works with international broadcasters and production partners to produce and fund factual entertainment inspired by history and science.

The prodco joined Argonon Group on Dec. 29, 2017. It has sold and produced over 180 hours of wholly-owned content, working with clients including UKTV; Channel 5; Discovery in the U.S., UK, and Europe; SBS Australia; ZDF; Foxtel; Nat Geo and Viasat World. Recent productions include Abandoned Engineering for UKTV and Science Channel and Somme: The First 24 Hours – With Tony Robinson for Discovery UK and SBS.

Elsewhere, Shirley Escott has been named COO for Leopard USA and Tough Cookie — U.S. prodcos that are also part of the Argonon fold.

Based in New York, Escott will oversee operations for the companies and report into Argonon’s CEO James Burstall and COO Laura Bessell. Escott takes up this permanent position from a previous consultant.

“Shirley is a very warm and committed senior executive with deep roots in the U.S. production community, which will help the group evolve and grow,” said Burstall, in a statement. “Her international expertise across all scale of budget, staff size and productions means she is the perfect fit to help Argonon further build on our presence in the U.S.”

Most recently, Escott served as EVP of production and co-executive producer at Stephen David Entertainment, with credits including American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story; |Roman Empire: Reign of Blood and The Making of the Mob.

She has also held roles with Picture Shack Entertainment, BBC Worldwide, and BBC Production USA. Her appointment is effective immediately.

Argonon is headquartered in London with offices in Manchester, Glasgow, New York and Vancouver. Its group consists of Leopard Pictures, Leopard USA, Remedy Productions, Remedy Productions Canada, Windfall Films, BriteSpark Films, Transparent Television, Tough Cookie, Bandicoot, Barefaced and, now, Like A Shot. Its distribution arm is Argonon International.
