SoulPancake executive Sarah North has been appointed head of Shopify Studios, the content house launched by commerce platform Shopify in January.

North (pictured) will oversee development, production and distribution across Shopify Studio’s slate of projects, which includes feature documentaries and long-form series that spotlight “entrepreneurial journeys.”

The Los Angeles-based production house has projects underway with partners such as Anonymous Content, Wheelhouse Entertainment’s Spoke Studios and Saville Productions.

Jason Badal, who previously held the title, will continue to lead business affairs, distribution and partnerships for the company.

“Audiences are hungry for gripping and inspiring content about the new generation of entrepreneurs and business owners,” North said in a statement. “Shopify Studios has already proven to be a refreshing content house, and I look forward to unveiling our next chapter of impactful stories to the world.”

North most recently served as vice president, head of television and OTT at Participant-owned entertainment and media company SoulPancake, co-founded by The Office actor Rainn Wilson.

In that role, she led creative development, strategic partnerships, production and overall network content deals in television and OTT.

North helped grow SoulPancake’s production and development roster and shepherd content for television, digital and branded, including the docu-variety show Kid President: Declaration of Awesome.

Prior to that role, she was a partner and executive producer at Mad Cow Productions.
