Endemol Shine International’s Cathy Payne will step down from her post as CEO of the global distributor in early 2020, Endemol Shine Group has confirmed to Realscreen.
Payne (pictured) informed Wim Ponnet, chief of strategy and commercial officer, and Sophie Turner Laing, CEO of Endemol Shine Group, of her plans to depart some months back, according to an internal email sent to the company’s staff.
Transition and recruitment plans are currently underway, and a replacement will follow in due time.
“This has not been an easy decision, but I knew that I wanted 2020 to bring a brand new challenge,” Payne said in an internal email. “As a sales team, and group of colleagues, there is no-one to match you all, my only focus however now is only MIPCOM next week and closing out 2019 to be our biggest possible and to help with the transition.”
The exact date for Payne’s departure is yet to be confirmed, Ponnet wrote in the email.
“Joining with the acquisition of Southern Star in 2009, first with Endemol Distribution Worldwide, and then as CEO of Endemol Shine International, Cathy has rightfully earned her reputation as one of the most highly regarded, commercially astute executives in the business. Her dedication, tenacity and competitive nature is legendary and her legacy as an all-time Endemol Shine ‘Great’ is assured,” he added.
Laing echoed the statements from Payne and Ponnet, adding: “Cathy is a simply brilliant sales leader and her contribution has been beyond exceptional. But I’m also respectful of her wishes for a new challenge.”
Payne was promoted to CEO in 2014 following the launch of Endemol Shine Group, which was formed by the merger of Endemol Worldwide Distribution and Shine International. She has held the position of chief executive of Endemol Worldwide Distribution since June 2009.
Prior to Endemol Shine Group’s acquisition of Southern Star Group, Payne was chief executive of Southern Star International for nine years. She work at the former Australia-based producer-distributor for more than two decades.
