The 92nd Academy Award nominees were unveiled this morning, including non-fiction titles Honeyland and For Sama.
Macedonian feature Honeyland (pictured), one of last year’s major stand outs, took two nominations, one for Documentary Feature and one for International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film). The doc follows the story of Hatidze Muratova, a beekeeper in North Macedonia, who lives with her elderly mother while taking care of the bees and gathering honey. When a new family moves next door, their presence brings both companionship and conflict.
Actor and producer John Cho and actor, writer and producer Issa Rae hosted the two-part live presentation starting at 5:18 a.m. PT/8:18 a.m. ET on Monday (Jan. 13).
Among notable omissions were critical juggernauts Apollo 11, Knock Down the House and One Child Nation.
The 92nd Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The ceremony is televised on ABC in the U.S. A host has not been announced. Last year’s awards were televised host-free following controversy when homophobic tweets and stand-up sets by announced host Kevin Hart resurfaced.
