ITV Studios-owned 12 Yard has appointed Michael Mannes to managing director and Liz Gaskell to creative director, forming a new management team at the label following the departure of MD Andy Culpin to 110% Content, the newly launched indie helmed by Siobhan Greene and Denise O’Donoghue.
Mannes (pictured), most recently deputy MD, joined the company in 2005, while Gaskell has spent 13 years at 12 Yard during two separate stints, most recently serving as head of development.
Together, they will lead the London- and Glasgow-based label as it looks to expand its slate of original entertainment formats, which currently includes I’ll Get This, Dave’s Comedians Giving Lectures, Celebrity Coach Trip for E4, Cruise Trip – which is airing on Channel 4 later this year — and Catchpoint, its copro with fellow ITV Studios label, Possessed, for BBC1.
During his time at 12 Yard, Mannes has produced programs across a range of channels, including BBC1 quiz shows SAS: Who Dares Wins and In It to Win It; ITV’s Big Star’s Little Star; and Insert Name Here for BBC2.
Prior to that, he was at BBC, where he worked on the first series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Gaskell has created more than 20 original series with her team as head of development, including Big Star’s Little Star, Comedians Giving Lectures and I’ll Get This. Previous to 12 Yard she worked at a wide range of companies including Planet 24, Hat Trick, North One and the BBC.
“Michael and Liz are ideally placed to take 12 Yard forward. They have been an integral part of the label’s success over the past 15 years and I am delighted that they are coming together to build upon its reputation for creating successful, original and returning formats,” Julian Bellamy, MD of ITV Studios, said in a statement.
In a statement from 110% Content, Cuplin said: “I’m really proud of what we have achieved at 12 Yard with ITV Studios and leave the company in great hands. I have always hugely admired Shu and Denise and the opportunity to join them at 110% Content was too big an opportunity to miss. There has never been a better time to start an indie and I am looking forward to developing the next generation of hit formats with them.”
Cuplin, a founding member of 12 Yard when it launched in 2001, has overseen a slate of formats include Big Star’s Little Star, I’ll Get This, Eggheads, Who Dares Wins, Coach Trip and Comedians Giving Lectures. He is slated to join 110% Content in April as its creative director.
