Award-winning Los Angeles-based media company World of Wonder has announced the appointment of Johnni Javier to head up its UK production division.
Javier (pictured) is the former director of production and operations for Blast! Films, where he oversaw all of its UK and U.S. content, including Channel 4′s Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, BBC1′s Forensics: The Real CSI and Sky Documentaries’ Liverpool Narcos. Javier began his TV career at World of Wonder UK, working his way up to head of production in 2006 before moving on. His mandate at WOW U.K. is to find talent and develop shows in the county for both the local and global markets.
WOW says the move demonstrates its commitment to growing its global reach in the same year that saw the launch of two new versions of its hot RuPaul’s Drag Race format: RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under (Australia-New Zealand) and Drag Race España (Spain).
“We feel very fortunate to welcome Johnni back to World of Wonder, at a key point in our growth,” said Fenton Bailey, WOW co-founder, in a release. “He is a seasoned and skilled executive who understands the DNA of our brand. He will be invaluable in shepherding the continued success of World of Wonder and WOW Presents Plus in the U.K. and beyond.”
World of Wonder has produced the Drag Race franchise since 2009, and it’s currently available in 193 countries worldwide. The company also launched its WOW Docs arm in late 2020, and will release the documentary feature Explant from director Jeremy Simmons, about media personality Michelle Visage as she gets her breast implants taken out after years of suffering from what she believes is a related illness. The film had its premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.
