Streaming service BritBox will premiere the new documentary The Wedding of the Century (pictured), about the 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana.
The feature-length film, produced by Touchdown Films, marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic royal wedding and features painstakingly restored high-definition footage of the event, as well as exclusive interviews with people who worked behind the scenes of the event. The centerpiece of the doc is 35mm footage of the wedding shot by British Movietone, which has been upscaled to 4K quality.
“We are delighted to be working with BritBox on this new feature-length documentary that reframes one of the most iconic days in history like never before,” said Touchdown Films founder John Osborne in a release.
The Wedding of the Century will launch on BritBox UK on July 15 before premiering on BritBox North America on July 29, exactly 40 years to the day since the wedding.
