Non-fiction streamer Discovery+ is set to chronicle the controversial megachurch Hillsong and the downfall of its senior pastor, Carl Lentz, in the three-part docuseries Breaking Hillsong from Breaklight Pictures and New York Post Entertainment.

The project takes viewers into the star-studded church with more than 150,000 global members. It will profile numerous current and ex-members who have come forward to share stories of alleged trauma, abuse, financial and labor exploitation, homophobia and racism.

Through a partnership with the New York Post and with investigative journalist Hannah Frishberg’s coverage, Breaking Hillsong will also feature exclusive interviews with the likes of Ranin Karim, the New York-based fashion designer whose five-month affair with Lentz (pictured) led to his downfall.

The series will additionally examine the greater phenomenon of corruption within megachurches.

Breaklight Pictures, part of The Content Group, launched in January 2020 with veteran producer Dan Johnstone.

Another project focusing on Hillsong is on the way from Scout Productions and Vanity Fair.
