UPDATE (1/19/22): Story below updated with new air date for series premiere
Discovery’s true-crime channel Investigation Discovery (ID) will begin airing Undercover Underage, a six-part docuseries that centers on child advocate Roo Powell’s task force that tracks down online predators, in February.
Powell (pictured) is an award-winning writer, speaker and founder of SOSA (Safe from Online Sex Abuse), a non-profit that raises awareness of and actively fights against online child exploitation. Undercover Underage follows Powell and her SOSA team as they fabricate three distinct, fictitious teenage personas through social media, photos and online profiles in order to bait and then identify predators.
These sting operations are complicated by the fact that many of the adults seeking to lure underage girls over the internet are themselves often hiding behind false online identities, which makes the task of identification all the more difficult and urgent.
Undercover Underage makes its linear broadcast premiere on ID on February 24, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on Thursdays. The full season is available for streaming on Discovery+. Ron Simon serves as executive producer of the series for Discovery+.
