Discovery Communications makes senior digital hire

Guhan Selvaretnam comes to Discovery Digital Media as SVP, product, content and operations after four years with Turner.

Discovery Communications has named Guhan Selvaretnam as its senior vice president, product, content and operations for Discovery Digital Media.

Selvaretnam will be tasked with developing and executing programming and product strategies for Discovery’s digital media division. He’ll lead the digital content and product teams across the company’s U.S. digital portfolio while also working with the company’s ad sales team to create advertising and sponsorship opportunities across Discovery Communcations’ digital properties.

Most recently, Selvaretnam was vice president, new products group lead for Turner Broadcasting. While there he and his team launched The Frisky, a women’s lifestyle site, and he launched and operated assorted new businesses and products leveraging various Turner brands. Prior to Turner, he’d been a VP at Reuters Group, where he managed product, marketing and operations for its U.S. digital media business.

“He brings a great balance of operational, editorial and innovative leadership and will be a strong addition as we seek to deepen our digital offerings for consumers and advertisers and expand our growing digital footprint,” said Kelly Day, executive vice president and general manager, Discovery Digital Media and Commerce, to whom Selvaretnam now reports.
