Weather Channel greenlights “Reel Rivals”

U.S. network The Weather Channel is investing in a fishing series, green-lighting Reel Rivals from the UK’s Optomen.
The 6 x 30-minute series will premiere in May 2013, and features the fierce competition and extreme weather conditions that a group of boat captains endure in the Florida Keys.
The captains aim to catch the largest and most fish, in order to make money and have bragging rights in the “sport fishing capital of the world.”
Reel Rivals joins other recent The Weather Channel original series, including Deadliest Space Weather, Coast Guard Alaska and Hurricane Hunters.
“Reel Rivals captures the adventure, excitement and fierce competition of this unique world, where rivaling captains do whatever they can – in any weather – to help people bring their trophy fishing dreams to life,” said Michael Dingley, senior VP of content and development at The Weather Channel. “It’s a wild ride to see them in action, whether it’s battling big fish, weather conditions, or each other.”
