In the wake of the latest Ebola crisis, Discovery Fit & Health will dedicate a three-hour block of primetime programming to the outbreak on Thursday, September 18.

The three-hour special Ebola: Are We Next? will include Ebola: Inside The Deadly Outbreak, a 60-minute documentary produced for Discovery Fit & Health by ABC News’ Lincoln Square Productions.

Hosted by Dr. Richard Besser (pictured above, right), ABC News’ chief medical editor and the former acting director of the CDC, Ebola: Inside The Deadly Outbreak was shot in the disease’s current hot zone of Monrovia, Liberia, where Besser interviewed stricken patients and their caretakers.

Ebola: Inside The Deadly Outbreak will cap the tail end of the evening with its 10 p.m. EST premiere: full coverage begins at 8 p.m. with an encore airing of Monsters Inside Me: Outbreak (first shown on Animal Planet in 2009), followed by the NBC News Special: Saving Dr. Brantly, about Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly in the 9 p.m. timeslot and airing for the first time on Discovery Fit & Health.

During the 10 p.m. premiere of Ebola: Inside The Deadly Outbreak, Dr. Besser will be issuing live tweets and answering questions. The hope is that by the conclusion of the three-hour programming block, viewers will be better informed about Ebola, its symptoms and its impact, the network said.

“Ebola is knocking on America’s door and we are looking for answers,” says Jane Latman, Discovery Fit & Health’s general manager. “With a partner like ABC News, who truly has exclusive and firsthand insight to understanding this unspeakable plague, we can educate the DFH audience on what this disease is, how to attempt to contain it, and how to protect ourselves.”

The executive producers for Ebola: Inside The Deadly Outbreak include Lincoln Square Productions’ Rudy Bodnar and Jeanmarie Condon, with Julie Meisner Eagle fulfilling the role for Discovery Fit & Health. Henry Schleiff is group president for Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel, Destination America and Discovery Fit & Health.
