ITV production arm ITV Studios has named Laura Gibson as its creative director, comedy entertainment.

In the newly created role, Gibson will be in charge of developing and executive producing unscripted comedy entertainment formats for ITV Network and non-ITV network channels. She will also nurture new comedy talent.

As creative director, she will head up a new comedy development team, which includes ITV Studios producer Jack Kennedy as development executive, and assistant producer Susannah Hayley.

Gibson will report to the newly appointed director of entertainment, Shu Greene, when she joins ITV Studios in the fall from Syco TV.

Gibson has been with ITV Studios since 2011, as an entertainment development executive. Prior to that, she was head of development at Princess Productions, where she formatted Famous and Fearless for Channel 4. She has also held roles as head of comedy entertainment at Roughcut TV, as well as senior production and development roles at Zeppotron, Objective Productions and Monkey Kingdom.

“Given the increasing industry demand for quality comedy entertainment programming, we’ve identified the opportunity for a dedicated comedy development team to develop and produce new content and build relationships with comedy talent,” said ITV Studios managing director Denise O’Donoghue. “Laura has already demonstrated her remarkable ability to devise talked-about comedy TV and I can’t wait to see the projects that will come from this new team.”
