CNN Original Series is launching a new eight-part program with Van Jones (pictured) that offers a glimpse into the restorative justice process.

Produced by Citizen Jones, The Redemption Project with Van Jones follows the victim, or surviving family members, of a life-changing crime as they meet in-person with their offender in the hopes of finding answers or healing.

In the series premiere, Jones guides audiences as they witness the first-ever meeting between a victim and an offender in the history of Alaska’s prison system. Terria Walters, a mother whose son was killed in a bad drug deal, will meet convicted killer Joshua Beebe, a former heroin dealer serving a 60-year sentence.

Executive producers are Jones, Jonas Bell Pasht, Jonah Bekhor, Jason Cohen, Sonia Slutsky, and Jana Carter. Amy Entelis and Lizzie Fox executive produce for CNN.

“I wanted to do The Redemption Project because I think we have lost our sense of grace and empathy and the capacity to forgive in our culture, at the highest levels,” said Jones in a statement. “This series is my attempt to put some medicine into our very sick system and to uplift people who are doing extraordinarily courageous things every day.”

Jones will also host the new CNN-produced podcast, Incarceration Inc. with Van Jones, a four-episode series that explores America’s criminal justice system and solutions to ending mass incarceration. The podcast will be available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Spotify and other podcast platforms beginning May 6.

Jones currently hosts CNN’s in-studio series The Van Jones Show, which features political and cultural guests, and conversation with Americans across the country and political spectrum. He previously hosted the 2016 CNN docuseries The Messy Truth and the follow-up in-studio discussion series The Messy Truth with Van Jones.

The Redemption Project with Van Jones premieres April 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN.
