Pernel Media to produce Trojan War doc special for France 5
Free-to-air channel France 5, part of the France Télévisions Group, has ordered an investigative documentary special set to peel the curtain back on one of the most famous battles in Greek mythology.
Directed by Laurent Portes, The Trojan War: Myth and Reality will provide exclusive access to two major archaeological dig sites and research leaders that will help in determining whether there is any historical truth behind the battle made famous by Homer’s poem The Iliad. The dig sites include Hissarlik, Turkey, believed to be the location of Troy, and the recently discovered Tenea in Greece.
The two-hour historical doc special has been pre-sold to Belgian broadcaster RTBF, French channel Histoire TV and an undisclosed broadcaster in the U.S.
The Trojan War: Myth and Reality will premiere across France 5′s science strand ‘Science Grand Format’. An exact date has not yet been announced.
Pernel Media’s Fabrice Frank and Samuel Kissous exec produce. Anne Gouraud, Xavier Grimault and Coraline Roch commissioned the special for France 5.
PBS ‘Masterpiece’ launches in Canada
PBS Distribution has launched its streaming channel PBS ‘Masterpiece’ on Amazon Prime Video Channels in Canada.
The subscription-based digital channel will include the latest episodes of British dramas, series and documentaries. Unscripted projects gracing the service include Tales from the Royal Bedchamber, Spying on the Royals, Tales from the Royal Wardrobe, and Poldark Revealed, among others.
The channel will also offer titles from the Walter Presents stable, which serves as a hand-selected library of award-winning and acclaimed series from across the globe, subtitled in English.
PBS ‘Masterpiece’ will be made available to Canadian audiences for CA$6.99 per month plus applicable taxes with an Amazon Prime membership.
Annica Lindeberg launches Sweden’s One Planet Production
Long-time Swedish TV exec Annica Lindeberg and renowned photo journalist and TV host Joakim Odelberg have launched the Stockholm-based One Planet Production.
The prodco will aim to produce engaging content for a local and global audience that tackles the issues of wildlife, climate change, human rights and sustainability.
“Our ambition for future projects are high and the focus on ideas we have in the pipeline are quality and credibility with a production style that attracts both young and old,” said Lindeberg in a statement.
Also joining the One Planet Production team is award-winning producer Stefan Edlund.
The company’s first project, One Planet, One Chance, is produced in association with British production-funding and distribution agency Drive. It will serve as a “hard-hitting adventure conservation series” following Odelberg as he ventures to various locations around the world to underscore the challenges faced by wildlife while meeting those on the frontline trying to enact positive change.
Vaudeville Sound Group expands creative team
Post-production outfit Vaudeville Sound Group has bolstered its creative team with the appointment of Annabelle Dunbar-Whittacker.
Dunbar-Whittacker will board the company as executive producer of its Los Angeles facility with responsibility for overseeing Vaudeville’s creative slate with a focus on short-form. She will additionally work closely alongside CEO Daniel Jones and LA studio manager Jon Plane.
Most recently, Dunbar-Whittacker was head of production at Cut+Run where she was responsible for the post team, scheduling, budgeting and delivery.
