As part of its recently announced mental health initiative, Viacom CBS’s MTV Entertainment Group (MTVE) is launching a multi-day “storytelling summit” geared towards improving mental health through storytelling.
The Better Together Mental Health Storytelling Summit will feature a wide range of talent — from Trevor Noah to Charlamagne tha God to MTV Documentary Films head Sheila Nevins (pictured) — from May 3-5.
Industry partners who are teaming with MTVE for the event include parent company ViacomCBS, The Walt Disney Company, Amazon Studios, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Endeavor Content, among others. The event will also harness input and contributions from the mental health expert community and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.
Organizers say the event is intended to galvanize the entertainment industry to improve and expand portrayals of mental health that can serve to encourage viewers to speak up and get help if needed.
The production partner for the event is VIVA Creative, known most recently for virtual production on the Oprah Conversations, with Ri-Karlo Handy of Sunwise Media serving as executive producer.
The full talent list is comprised of: Kenya Barris, Rachel Bloom, Liz Brixius, Margaret Cho, Andy Cohen, Charlamagne tha God, David Collins, Alex Gansa, Regina Hall, Hill Harper, H.E.R., Michael Imperioli, Lisa Ling, Nika King, Delroy Lindo, Chuck Lorre, Romany Malco, Miguel, DJ Nash, Sheila Nevins, Trevor Noah, Tig Notaro, Kevin Powell, Phor & Puma, and Ally Sheedy.
