UK distributor Beyond Rights has announced deals with A+E Networks UK to have its documentary series Curse of Akakor, retitled Curse of the Lost Amazon Gold, broadcast in several European territories.

The agreement will see Curse of the Lost Amazon Gold air on A+E Networks UK’s Sky History channel and on the History Channel in Sweden, Benelux, Italy and Germany.

Curse of the Lost Amazon Gold tells the stories of three separate explorers who sought the rumored ancient cities of Akakor and Akahim in the Amazon jungle in the 1980s– each of whom disappeared mysteriously on their expeditions. The series also follows six new investigators, including journalist Paul Connolly (Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons, pictured) and adventurer Megan Hine (Bear Grylls: Mission Survive) as they seek answers.

The series began as a short-form series on Facebook Watch before being expanded into a 6 x 60-minute series, Curse of Akakor, produced by Beyond Productions for Discovery U.S. The retitled Curse of the Lost Amazon Gold will have its European premiere on Sky History in the UK on July 12 as part of the broadcaster’s “Summer of Secrets” event.

Beyond Rights’ head of sales Simona Argenti negotiated the deal for the UK, Sweden, Benelux and Italy with Kelly Hornsby, head of acquisitions at A+E Networks UK.
